Samdo

After breakfast one of our party returned to Katmandu by helicopter as he was suffering from a serious infection. Once the helicopter had left we set off up a wide valley once again following the Budhi Gandaki river to Samdo (3875m). We arrived in time for lunch. The lodge was very basic but the potatoes, cheese and Himalayan bread were very tasty. In the afternoon we climbed up to the lateral moraine of the retreating Sonam glacier. The village is only a days walk from the Tibetan border and Larkya bazar above the village was once a busy trading spot. Day 10 was another acclimatization day so we climbed up to the pray flags on the slope above the village. We can see down the Budhi Gandaki valley all the way to Himal Chuli. We relax on the sunny hillside surrounded by snowy peaks, listening to the prayer flags whispering into the wind and watching the vultures and eagles riding the thermals below us. We are definitely getting closer to heaven.

Dia 9 e 10 Samdo Após o café da manhã, um de nossos membros retornou a Katmandu por helicóptero, já que sofria de uma infecção grave. Uma vez que o helicóptero partiu, começamos um vale largo novamente seguindo o rio Budhi Gandaki para Samdo (3875m). Chegamos a tempo para o almoço. O lodge era muito básico, mas as batatas, o queijo e o pão do Himalaia eram muito saborosos. À tarde, subimos até a moraine lateral da geleira Sonam em retirada. A aldeia fica a apenas alguns dias a pé da fronteira com o Tibete e o Larkya Bazar acima da aldeia já foi um lugar comercial agitado. O dia 10 foi outro dia de aclimatação, então subimos as bandeiras de oração na encosta acima da aldeia. Podemos ver o vale Budhi Gandaki até Himal Chuli. Nós relaxamos na encosta ensolarada cercada de picos nevados, ouvindo as bandeiras de oração sussurrando no vento e observando os abutres e as águias a bordo das térmicas abaixo de nós. Estamos definitivamente nos aproximando do céu.
