Baía do Peixe

For our first day / evening in Lisbon as first timers, after a long afternoon of exploring we settle for Baia do Peixe as it had good vibe and outdoor seating. First impression, menu had limited options and we settled for the pasta. We were served by the amazing Rachana who was friendly, warm, and attentive to all our requests. The place was picking up and we could see Rachana attending to various table as the evening go by. We were distracted by the Olympics games broadcasted on the TV in front of our table and our attention was often on TV / in between meals and chatting. Towards the end of our meal we witnessed some horrifying racist behaviour from the front of our table towards Rachana from one of the couple in front of us. The body language of the lady facing our table towards Rachana was disgusting and i was shocked that in Lisbon people can be so openly racist !! I'm not aware of Rachana's origin, however i would guess her heritage is from the sub indian continent. She spoke perfect english and we had no trouble communicating. The lady in front of us was bullying Rachana for her communication which i find to be very upsetting and pathethic! It's 2024 people, where's the humanity gone?? Such customers should be chukced out of restaurants instead of being pacified !! Customers are not always right, especially where they feel they have a sense of entitlement and just because they have got the purchasing power! Such people should go in the dump. Im sorry Rachana we couldnt do anything for you, i hope your workplace will review such behaviours and ensure going forward you are being protected rather than pointing the blame at you and making you feel humiliated for some little arse shitty mentality troubled mind ! You deseve so much more and do not let this incident take anything from you ! Instead, remember you are far better than this sick lady and you were in no way responsible for her behaviour and her being despicable is totally her own reality. You remained calm & professional throughout it all and didn't call it out which i would advise you next time to report to your supervisor ! You shouldn't be accepting of this!! To the management of the restaurant, please make your workplace safe for your team to raise issues ! They're not servants or slaves. Like every human they have a name, an indentity and a reason to exist. Treat them with the utmost respect and value their contributions to your business and do not tolerate such behaviours ever again!!!
